Darwin and Boudicca can be competitive, simply a demo emphasizing WHY dog trainers recommend working in distraction free environments first, then generalizing to other locations. Boudicca is not the only distraction, active squirrels are also present. Also note, I am using positive reinforcement, using dog kibble as reward during initial training, but limited basis. This is not bribery during the aquisition (beginning) phase of training, it’s not any different from raising children by managing their behavior, rewarding their good behavior and redirecting, ignoring and/or mildly correcting unwanted behavior. Darwin is trained off lead (not 100% reliably, be honest with yourself), this is an example of initial training for dogs not properly trained during early puppy and/or adolescent periods. There are myriad of dog training examples to get specific behaviors, as many as there are dog trainers, however, understanding dog behavior and recognizing individualism between dogs goes along way in training and forming the human-dog bond.
