The Dog Scouts Badge Program
It all starts with the Dog Scout Badge...
Among the primary missions of the Dog Scouts of America is education and the encouragement and recognition of excellence and responsible dog ownership. These goals are fulfilled through the Dog Scouts Badge Program which gives members the opportunity to master a wide variety of skill sets and receive recognition for their accomplishments.
The chance to earn merit badges begins with earning the Dog Scout Badge. The skills required for earning the Dog Scout Badge - including basic obedience, owner's ability to keep their dog safe, and the basics of responsible dog ownership -- are the foundation for every other activity we do. It is the mutual respect built between human and canine through earning the Dog Scout Badge that makes so many other things possible.
Please note that the Dog Scouts is not a training club. While we will always offer fun learning activities geared toward earning various badges and there will be many resources and discussions suggesting the best training approaches for each skill, we do not offer formal training such as you would find through an event specific training club.
Available badges:
Once a member earns the Dog Scout Badge, there are a wide variety of activities that can earn merit badges. In each case, there is a set checkoff process with specific skills required and a formal evaluation. Members have access to the member's area of our website including checkoff sheets for each badge which allow members to track and save their progress toward each badge as well as tools to track any activity logs that might be required for a particular badge.
